Computed tomography (health)


An x-ray procedure that uses the help of a computer to produce a detailed picture of a cross section of the body. Also called a CT scan or CAT scan.

Physics. Orig., a unit of magnetic field strength: = OERSTED. Later, a cgs unit of magnetic induction (equivalent to 104 tesla) equal to the flux density which exerts a force of one dyne per centimetre on a wire carrying one electromagnetic unit of current (ten amperes) perpendicular to the field.
