Cefaut noun. obsolete exc. Hist. Also C fa ut. LME.
[from C as a pitch letter + fa and ut designating tones in the solmization of Guido d'Arezzo (c 990-1050).]
Medieval Music. The note C in Guido d'Arezzo's 1st and 2nd hexachords, where it was sung to the syllables fa and ut respectively. Cf. ALAMIRE, BEMI, CESOLFA, etc.
