Doppler broadening: of spectral lines as a result of the different velocities of the emitting atoms giving rise to different Doppler shifts. Doppler effect the observed increase (or decrease) in the pitch or frequency of sound, light, and other waves when the source and observer are getting closer (or further away). Doppler radar: using the Doppler effect to ascertain the radial velocity of a detected object. Doppler shift the change in frequency caused by the Doppler effect. Doppler width: of spectral lines, due to Doppler broadening.
