Essex pig, a black pig with a white stripe round the body and white feet, of a kind formerly bred for pork and bacon; US a black pig of a kind bred for pork and bacon. M19.
Essex board, a kind of fibreboard. M20.
Essex man (freq. derog.), a confident, affluent young businessman of the late 1980s, supposedly to be found esp. in London and the south-east of England and characterized as voting Conservative and benefiting from the entrepreneurial wealth created by Thatcherite policies. Also Essex girl, a supposed type of young woman from the same milieu, variously characterized as unintelligent, promiscuous, and materialistic. L20.
