Flanders noun. LME.
[Dutch Vlaanderen pl.: a region and former principality in the south-west of the Low Countries, now divided between Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.]
Used attrib. to designate things originating in or associated with Flanders.
Flanders brick = Bath brick s.v. BATH noun1. Flanders poppy a red corn poppy used as the emblem of the Allied soldiers who fell in the war of 1914-18; an artificial red poppy sold on behalf of the ex-service community and worn in Britain on Remembrance Day and the period directly preceding it (cf. POPPY noun 1c).
Flanderkin noun (arch.) a native or inhabitant of Flanders E16.
Flandrian adjective (a) (now rare) of or pertaining to Flanders or its inhabitants; (b) Geology of, pertaining to, or designating the period following the end of the last glaciation in NW Europe: M17.
