Any of various children's games involving looking or seeing: orig., a form of hide-and-seek in which the hiders, when discovered (with a cry of 'I spy'), chased the seekers back to a den; now usu., a verbal guessing game in which one participant gives the initial letter of a visible object which the others have to identify.
