Roman Mythology. The god of agriculture, in classical times identified with Greek Kronos, ruler of the gods until deposed by his son Zeus (Jupiter). OE.
Astronomy. The sixth planet in order of distance from the sun, a gas giant well known for its ring system, whose orbit lies between those of Jupiter and Uranus. OE.
b. Astrology. Saturn as a supposed cause of coldness, sluggishness, and gloominess in those born under its influence, and in General as a malign force over human affairs. LME.

pyxie noun. US. L19.
[Abbreviation of mod. Latin Pyxidanthera (see below), from Greek puxidion (see PYXIDIUM) + fem. of antheros flowery.]
In full pyxie moss. A small prostrate evergreen shrub, Pyxidanthera barbulata (family Diapensiaceae), of the pine-barrens of the eastern US, with needle-like leaves and tiny white flowers. Also called pine-barren Beauty.
