A storehouse or storeroom. obsolete in gen. sense. ME.
An underground room or vault, esp. for storage. ME.
beer-cellar, coal-cellar, etc.
In full wine cellar. A place in which wine is kept; transf. the contents of this, a person's stock of wines. LME.
A box, a case, esp. of bottles. (See also SALT-CELLAR.) Only in M17.
Comb.: cellar beetle any of several large slow-moving tenebrionid beetles of the genus Blaps; esp. B. mucronata, which frequents cellars etc.; cellar-book: for keeping a record of the stock of wines etc. in a cellar; cellarman: in charge of a cellar; cellarway a passage through cellars.
b. verb trans. Put into a cellar; store (as) in a cellar. E16.
