A personal attendant of a king or nobleman in his bedroom (now arch. or Hist.). Also, an officer managing the private chambers or household of a monarch, noble, etc. ME.
Lord Chamberlain (of the Household) the head of management of the royal household, formerly the licenser of plays for performance. Lord Great Chamberlain (of England) the hereditary holder of a ceremonial office, whose responsibilities include attendance on the monarch at a coronation.
A steward; an officer appointed to receive revenue etc.; esp. the treasurer of a corporation etc. LME.
