I. Music.
a. Early Music. Orig., a wind instrument made of a horn or resembling a horn. Later = CORNETTO. Also, a player of such an instrument. LME.
b. Orig. cornet-a-piston(s). A valved brass instrument used chiefly in bands, similar to a trumpet but shorter and with a wider mouth; a player of this instrument. M19.
Any of various organ-stops suggestive of a cornet(t), esp. a powerful mixture stop. M17.
II.
a. A piece of paper rolled into a conical form and twisted at the tip, for carrying sugar, salt, etc. M16.
b. A conical wafer, esp. one filled with ice-cream. E20.
