A. noun. A small dark-purple plum borne by the tree Prunus insititia. Also, the tree itself. LME.
Comb.: damson cheese a solid preserve of damsons and sugar; damson plum (a) the damson or (usu.) a larger plum resembling it; (b) (the edible purple fruit of) a neotropical tree, Chrysophyllum oliviforme, of the sapodilla family.
