[Old French feire (mod. foire) from late Latin feria holiday, sing. of classical Latin feriae religious festivals, holy days.]
A regular gathering of buyers and sellers at a time and place ordained by charter, statute, or custom. Now esp. (a part of) such a gathering devoted entirely to amusements (also fun-fair). ME.
