A (triangular) piece of material let into a garment to strengthen or enlarge some part. LME.
Hist. A piece of flexible material introduced in a coat of mail to fill up a space at the joints between two adjoining pieces of mail. LME.
Heraldry. A charge formed by a line drawn from the dexter or sinister chief to a central point, from where the line is continued perpendicularly to the base of the escutcheon. Cf. GORE noun2 3. M16.
A triangular piece or corner of land. Chiefly, & now only, Scot. L16.
A flat bracket or angular piece fixed at an angle of a structure to give strength or firmness. M19.
