A wheel or disc mounted so that it can spin rapidly about an axis which itself can rotate about either of two Other axes perpendicular to it and to each Other; because the spin axis tends to maintain the same direction in space gyroscopes are used in different devices to provide stabilization or a Reference direction, and to measure angular velocity and acceleration.
