I. A strip or band.
Heraldry. A temporary mark of cadency now distinguishing the eldest son of a family during the lifetime of his father or grandfather, consisting of a band across the upper part of the shield having (usu. three or five) dependent points. Formerly also, each of the dependent points. ME.
