[Acronym, from light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation, after MASER.]
A device that can emit a very intense, narrow, parallel beam of highly monochromatic and coherent light (or other electromagnetic radiation) by using light to stimulate the emission of more light of the same wavelength and phase by excited atoms or molecules. Cf. MASER.
