Latent condition, nature, or existence; spec. in Biology, that of a disposition or faculty which remains concealed until the necessary conditions for its development are supplied. M17.
b. In psychoanalytic theory: a condition when sexual feelings are held to be sublimated or repressed, lasting from the age of five to puberty. Freq. in latency period. E20.
