The action or an act of multiplying something; the condition of being multiplied. Now chiefly as passing into sense 3. LME.
Reproduction of people or animals; propagation of plants. LME.
Math.
a. The action or process of multiplying quantities; the process of finding the quantity produced by repeatedly adding one quantity as many times as there are units in a second quantity, or (in the case of fractions) of finding the same fraction of one quantity as a second quantity is of unity. LME.
b. The successive application of an operator; generation of a product. M19.

Alchemy. The action of transmuting metals into gold or silver. LME-L17.
Botany. Abnormal increase in the number of whorls or of organs in a whorl. M19.
