Any of various plants of the genus Nicotiana, of the nightshade family, which includes N. tabacum, the principal source of tobacco; spec. any of several ornamental plants, esp. N. alata, grown for their night-scented trumpet-shaped flowers of various colours. Also called tobacco-plant, tobacco.
