[Late Latin penthemimeres from Greek penthemimeres consisting of five halves, from pente five + hemimeres halved (formed as HEMI- + meros part).]
Classical Prosody. A group of five half-feet; spec. (a) either half of a pentameter; (b) the first part of a hexameter as far as a caesura in the middle of the third foot.
penthemimeral adjective designating a caesura occurring in the middle of the third foot in a line M19.
