The action of coming forcibly into contact with an object so as to give a shock; an instance of this, a blow, a knock. LME.
The playing of a musical instrument by striking it or striking two parts together (chiefly in instrument of percussion, percussion instrument); collect. the percussion instruments of an orchestra etc.; the players of these. L18.
