A banana (the fruit); spec. (esp. N. Amer. & W. Indies) any of the varieties of this fruit with a high starch content, which are picked when not yet ripe and cooked as a vegetable in tropical countries. Also, a plant producing this fruit, esp. Musa paradisiaca.
