Any of various tropical trees and shrubs constituting the former leguminous genus Poinciana, now divided between Delonix and Caesalpinia; esp. (more fully royal poinciana) the Madagascan tree D. regia, with racemes of scarlet flowers, widely grown for ornament in the tropics.
