A simple mechanical device consisting of a grooved wheel or set of wheels over which a cord etc. may pass, mounted in a block, and used esp. for raising weights by pulling downward on the cord. ME.
A wheel or drum fixed on a shaft and turned by a belt etc. for the application or transmission of power, or to guide such a belt. E17.
