[Abbreviation of mod. Latin Pyxidanthera (see below), from Greek puxidion (see PYXIDIUM) + fem. of antheros flowery.]
In full pyxie moss. A small prostrate evergreen shrub, Pyxidanthera barbulata (family Diapensiaceae), of the pine-barrens of the eastern US, with needle-like leaves and tiny white flowers. Also called pine-barren Beauty.
