That which remains over; a remainder, a remnant, a relic. Freq. in pl. Long rare. LME.
a. A sum remaining to be paid; balance or arrears of money due. Chiefly Scot. LME-L16.
b. The balance of an account; a periodic balancing of accounts. E19.
c. The reserve or surplus fund of a bank, esp. of the Bank of England. M19.
