A. adjective.
Able to be reversed; capable of reversing; spec. (of cloth) faced on both sides, so as to allow of being turned, (of a garment) faced on both sides, so as to be wearable with either outside. M17.
b. Of a propeller: capable of providing reverse thrust, usu. by reversal of the pitch of the blades while the direction of rotation remains unchanged. E20.
Physics. Of a change or process: that is capable of complete and detailed reversal; spec. designating or undergoing an ideal change in which a system is in thermodynamic equilibrium at all times. M19.
Chemistry. Of a reaction: that occurs together with its converse, and so yields an equilibrium mixture of reactants and products. L19.
Physical Chemistry. Designating an electrochemical cell in which the chemical reaction can be reversed by the application of a sufficiently large opposing electromotive force; pertaining to a state in which the electromotive force of the cell is balanced by an applied emf and no current is flowing. L19.
Physical Chemistry. Of a colloid or colloidal system: able to be changed from a gelatinous state into a sol by a reversal of the treatment which turns the sol into a gel or gelatinous precipitate. L19.
