The use of boiling or very hot liquid in the preparation of a carcass for food; the partial boiling of milk etc.; sing. & in pl., a quantity of liquid thus heated. (Earliest in scalding-house below.) LME.
The action of burning with very hot liquid or steam. LME.

d. Horticulture. Scorching of plants by the sun's heat after watering. M19.
