[from STEEL noun1 (in fig. sense = rigidly fixed) + BOW noun2.]
Scots Law. A quantity of farm stock which a new tenant received from the landlord and was obliged to return undiminished at the end of the tenancy. Also, the kind of tenancy or contract under which such a condition was made. Freq. attrib., as steelbow goods, steelbow lease, steelbow tenant, etc.
