That has been stubbed, that has been made into a stub; spec. (a) (of a tree etc.) cut down to a stump; (b) worn down through usage, blunted; (c) (orig. US) (of a toe) that has been struck against something, esp. painfully. L16.
Orig., (of land) cleared of stubs. Later, (of land) having many stubs, covered with stubs. rare. L16.
Comb.: stubbed-out (of a cigar or cigarette) extinguished by being pressed against a hard object.
