A. adjective.
a. Logic & Philosophy. Proceeding from causes or general principles to consequences or particular instances; deductive. L17.
b. Kantian Philosophy. Pertaining to the synthesis of the manifold. Also, designating judgements which add to the subject attributes not directly implied in it. E19.
Of, pertaining to, involving, or using synthesis, or combination of parts into a whole; constructive. E18.
Nature Similarly unusual coordination numbers no longer present an important challenge to the synthetic chemist.
a. Chemistry. Pertaining to or involving chemical synthesis; (of an organic compound, a gem, etc.) produced by artificial synthesis, esp. in imitation of a natural substance; (of a fibre) manufactured from a chemically synthesized polymer. Also, made from synthetic materials rather than natural ones. M18.

Biology.
