A drum-shaped dish made of finely minced meat, fish, etc., cooked in a pastry crust or a mould. Also (in full timbale mould), the mould or crust in which this dish is served. E19.
Entomology. A membrane which forms part of the sound-producing organ in various insects, as the cicada. M19.
In pl. Two single-headed drums played as a pair with drumsticks. E20.
