The sugary sap from any of certain palm trees, esp. the jaggery palm Caryota urens, the palmyra Borassus flabellifer, and the coconut palm Cocos nucerifa, which is used as a drink in tropical countries; esp. the sap of such a palm fermented to produce an arrack. E17.
