[translating mod. Latin sinus versus, from Latin sinus SINE + versus turned, pa. pple of vertere turn: see -ED1.]
Math. Orig., the length of the part of a radius between the foot of the line orig. called a 'sine' and the end of the corresponding arc. Now, the ratio of this line to the radius; the quantity obtained by subtracting the cosine from unity. Abbreviation vers, versin. Cf. VERSINE. L16.
