Botany.
A European and British plant of roadsides etc., Verbena officinalis (family Verbenaceae), with wiry stems and spikes of small lilac flowers. Also (now rare), with specifying word, any of various Other plants of the genus Verbena. LME.
= VERBENA 2. M16.
Comb.: vervain hummingbird a minute green and white hummingbird, Mellisuga minima, which is found in Jamaica and Hispaniola.
