Any of various small tufted rock-loving ferns constituting the genus Woodsia, widespread in mountains in temperate and cool regions of the world, two species of which, W. ilvensis (more full oblong woodsia) and W. alpina (more fully Alpine woodsia) are rare natives of Britain.
