Biot's respiration


Completely irregular breathing pattern, with continually variable rate and depth of breathing; results from lesions in the respiratory centres in the brainstem, extending from the dorsomedial medulla caudally to the obex.

Synonym: ataxic breathing, Biot's breathing, respiratory ataxia.
