Caliciviridae (medicine)

caliciviridae

A family of RNA viruses. They possess a characteristic six-pointed starlike shape whose surfaces have cup-shaped (chalice) indentions. They differ from picornaviruses in size and shape, and most importantly, in genomic expression during replication cycles. Caliciviruses include the hepatitis e virus, vesicular exanthema of swine virus, san miguel sea lion viruses, feline calicivirus (calicivirus, feline), norwalk virus, and the rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (haemorrhagic disease virus, rabbit).
