Heyer-Pudenz valve (medicine) and Synclinal (medicine)

Heyer-Pudenz valve (medicine)

Heyer-Pudenz valve

A valve used in the shunting procedure for hydrocephaly; consisting of a catheter-valve system in which the ventricular catheter leads the cerebrospinal fluid into a one-way pump through which the cerebrospinal fluid passes down the distal catheter into the right atrium of the heart.

Synclinal (medicine)

synclinal

1. Inclined downward from opposite directions, so as to meet in a common point or line.

2. <geology> Formed by strata dipping toward a common line or plane; as, a synclinal trough or valley; a synclinal fold; opposed to anticlinal.

A downward flexure in the case of folded rocks makes a synclinal axis, and the alternating upward flexure an anticlinal axis.

Origin: Gr. To incline together; with + to incline.

<geology> A synclinal fold.
