[Latin from Greek anemone, from anemos wind.]
A plant of the genus Anemone, of the buttercup family; esp. (also wood anemone) A. nemorosa, a common woodland plant bearing delicate white flowers in early spring (also called windflower). Also, a flower of such a plant. M16.

More fully sea anemone. An anthozoan belonging to the order Actiniaria, having a radiating array of tentacles around the mouth. M18.
