<person> Taught Anatomy and Physiology in Berlin, became Professor of Anatomy in Louvain and was later Professor of Comparative Anatomy and Physiology at Liege. Was an early advocate (1838) of the cellular doctrine of tissues and the originator of the neuronal theory of the nervous system.
