Prep Time: 5 minutes

Yield: Makes 30 to 36 appetizers

1-1/2pounds bratwurst (about 5 or 6 links)

1bottle (12 ounces) amber ale

1medium onion, thinly sliced

2tablespoons packed brown sugar

2tablespoons red Wine or cider vinegar

Spicy brown mustard

Cocktail rye bread

Preparation:

1.Combine bratwurst, ale, onion, brown sugar and vinegar in slow cooker. Cover; cook on LOW 4 to 5 hours.2.Remove bratwurst and onion slices from juices in slow cooker. Cut bratwurst into 1/2-inch-thick slices. For mini open-faced sandwiches, spread mustard on cocktail rye bread. Top with bratwurst slices and cooked onion, if desired.

Tip:

Choose a light-tasting beer for Cooking brats. Hearty ales might leave the meat tasting slightly bitter.
