A leguminous tree, Colophospermum mopane, of desert regions in southern Africa, bearing small green flowers and with leaves consisting of a pair of leaflets which fold together during intense heat.
Comb.: mopane worm a black spotted caterpillar which feeds on mopane leaves and is an item of diet.
