promoter regions
<genetics> DNA sequences which are recognised (directly or indirectly) and bound by a DNA-dependent RNA polymerase during the initiation of transcription. Highly conserved sequences within the promoter include the pribnow box in bacteria and the tata box in eukaryotes.
