Kitakyushu (sh)




City (pop., 2000 prelim.: 1,011,491), Kyushu, Japan.

It was created in 1963 by the amalgamation of several cities. Part of its long coastline is included in the Inland Sea National Park. It is one of Japan's leading manufacturing centres. Undersea tunnels and a bridge link the city with Shimonoseki, Honshu.
