1. <ornithology> Any one of four species of aquatic birds of the genus Anhinga or Plotus. They are allied to the gannets and cormorants, but have very long, slender, flexible necks, and sharp bills.

The American species (Anhinga, or Plotus, anhinga) inhabits the Southern United States and tropical America; called also darter, and water turkey. The Asiatic species (A. Melanogaster) is native of Southern Asia and the East Indies. Two Other species inhabit Africa and Australia respectively.

Malignant tumour of the ovaries.

Risk factors include early age of first menstruation (before age 12), late onset of menopause (after age 52), absence of Pregnancy, presence of specific genetic mutations, use of fertility drugs, and personal history of breast cancer. Symptoms such as abdominal swelling, pelvic pressure or pain, and unusual vaginal bleeding often do not appear until ovarian cancer is advanced. Surgery, sometimes followed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy, is an effective treatment for most ovarian cancers.
