A masticatory vestige on the hard palate; one of several irregular, sometimes branching, crests of soft tissue that radiate from the region of the incisive papillae at their most anterior parts and extend a slight distance backward, crossing the hard palate and reaching laterally for variable distances.

Synonym: plica palatina transversa, ruga palatina, transverse palatine ridge.

Oasis, east-central Saudi Arabia.

It lies southeast of Riyadh and is administered with that city. Situated around a series of deepwater pools, it was chosen as the site of a government experimental farm in 1938. Its traditional dairy industry was greatly expanded in 1981 with inauguration of a meat and dairy combine.
