<anatomy> One of 23 bones (excluding the sacrum) in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions that comprise the spine. There are 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic and 5 lumbar vertebrae. The bottom of the spine is fused and forms the sacrum.

As with liquids, a tendency for mutual solubility exists between any two coexisting solids (i.e., each can mix with the Other); depending on the chemical similarities of the solids, mutual solubility of two substances may be 100% (as between silver and gold), or it may be near 0 (as between copper and bismuth).
