Kitchener, Horatio (oh)



(1850-1916) a British army officer, also known as Lord Kitchener, who fought successfully in the Boer War. During World War I he was responsible for building up the British army, and his picture appeared on a famous poster with the words 'Your country wants YOU, Join your country's army, God save the King'.

A comet-shaped scotoma, occurring in glaucoma, attached at the temporal end to the blind spot or separated from it by a narrow gap; the defect widens as it extends above and nasally curves around the fixation spot, and then extends downward to end exactly at the nasal horizontal meridian.

Synonym: Bjerrum's sign, sickle scotoma.
