Fly River (sh)




River, New Guinea Island.

One of the island's largest rivers, it flows almost wholly through Papua New Guinea. For a short stretch of its middle course, it forms the border between Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Rising in the Victor Emanuel Range in the central highlands, it flows south for about 700 mi (1,100 km) to the Coral Sea; much of it is navigable.
